Upper Dolpo is the sacred land of Bonpo Buddhism, an isolated part of Tibetan pleatue, the historical route of salt trading and recently famous for Yarsa Gumba and Blueshipp. Lovely dry landscape, many passes and range of Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Kanjiroba Himalaya gives you a lifetime experience of highland trekking.

You can do a long or short trekking to Upper Dolpo, either from Jumla or Jomsom. A classic trekking route is presented below. If you want to modify it, that is possible.

  • Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
  • Day 02: Trekking preparation.
  • Day 03: Fly to Nepalgunj about 1 hour (400m).
  • Day 04: Fly to Juphal (2400m) about half an hour and trek down to Sulighat (2100m) and camp.
  • Day 05: Trek to Aankhe (2660m) 7/7 hour.
  • Day 06: Trek to Renji (3100m) 7 hour.
  • Day 07: Trek to Phoksundo Lake (3600m) 6/7 hour.
  • Day 08: Rest and excursion day to lake and village.
  • Day 09: Trek to Phoksundo Khola (3500m).
  • Day 10: Trek to Phoksundo Bhanjyang (4400m).
  • Day 11: Cross the Kang-la pass (5150m) and trek to Shey Gompa 4126m) 7 hour.
  • Day 12: Excursion at Shey.
  • Day 13: Cross Saldang La (4745m) and trek to Namduna gaun (4400m).
  • Day 14: Trek to Saldang (3900m) 3 hour.
  • Day 15: Rest Day.
  • Day 16: Trek to Sibu (3940m).
  • Day 17: Trek to Jeng La base camp (4369m).
  • Day 18: Cross Jeng La (4845m) and trek to Tokyu village (4240m) 6/7 hour.
  • Day 19: Trek to Dho Tarap (4090m) 2 hour.
  • Day 20: Trek to Serkam, 4/5 hour.
